I. Teacher: Good morning, dear boys, girls and teachers. I am very glad to see you at our lesson today, which is devoted to St. Valentine’s Day and it’s celebration.
As you know, St.V.Day is celebrated in different countries. Do you know in what countries it is celebrated?
Students: It is celebrated in Great Britain, Canada, Australia, France, Denmark, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia and many others.
Teacher: Right. That is to say, almost all over the world, it’s very popular.
II.So, today at the lesson we are going to speak about the origin of this holiday and 3 legends about its origin. Also we’ll get some information about St. Valentine himself, we will speak about its symbols and the reasons why they became symbols, touch upon customs and traditions of the holiday, deal with ways of celebrating this holiday not only in G.B. but in different countries and in Russia as well.
The main idea of the holiday may be expressed in the following words: ”The best and the most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart”.
So, what words would you like to take to express the main idea of the holiday?
All these words are suitable, because all of them are about love.
As for me when I hear the words “ St.V.Day” I think about A big red heart…So, it is interesting to know what are your associations when you hear these words?
Students: Spring, valentines, balloons, roses…
III.Teacher: Ok. Thank you. I think now it’s high time to speak about the history of our holiday. Speaking about any holiday it is always interesting to know when it appeared and what the reason was. Let’s try to know it!
But firstly using the cards which you can see on the black board give me some information about St.Valentine and the time when he lived.
Now, legends will give us more information. Your task is to read them and then I’ll ask you some questions.
Questions: 1) What legend did you hear before?
2) What legend is the most true-to-life?
3) What legend is the most popular nowadays?
May be there are some more legends also, but historicans don’t know the origin of the holiday for sure.
IV.I suppose, you know a lot about this holiday and now you’ll demonstrate your knowledge. I’ll give you sheets of paper, your task is to fill in the gaps in this reference using a scheme on the black board.
Teacher: I see you know much.Very good.
V.As we have already said, St.V.Day is celebrated all over the world and in each country its celebration has its own peculiarities, typical only for this country. Now we’ll see how people in different countries celebrate this holiday.
Valentine’s Day Around the World»)
Look through the tables and answer my questions:
What countries are mentioned in the table?
What are the dates of celebrating the holiday?
Look very carefully and complete the sentences given below.
You see that the columns about Russia are empty, so fill in the gaps right know.

I have one more task for you connected with symbols (учительраздаеткарточки), your task is to match the words from three columns.

(1) The first is the most pleasant – gifting each other small presents and valentine cards( студентыобмениваютсяподаркамиизачитываютпоздравленияввалентинках).
