ТЕМА: THE GEOGRAPHICAL OUTLOOK OF THE USA. THE LAND AND ITS PEOPLE.
УЧЕБНИК: «Английский язык VI»; авторы: Афанасьева О. В., Михеева И. В.; Lesson 16.
ЦЕЛИ УРОКА:
1) практические – введение новых лексических единиц по теме «The USA» на основе ранее введённых и их первичное закрепление; развитие умений аудирования и монологической речи;
2) образовательная – расширение общего кругозора; развитие филологического кругозора;
3) развивающая – развитие языковой догадки и произносительных навыков; развитие памяти, мышления, воображения;
4) воспитательная – воспитание эмоционально-оценочного отношения к миру; формирование позитивного отношения к народу-носителю языка.

I. ПОДГОТОВКА УЧАЩИХСЯ К РЕЧЕВОЙ ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТИ НА АНГЛИЙСКОМ ЯЗЫКЕ.
1. Приветствие.
- Good morning, children! My name is Svetlana Vladimirovna. Sit down, please.
2. Сообщение темы и целей урока.
- Today we are going to speak about the United States of America, the country of striking differences. And we’ll learn some new words.
3. Речевая разминка.
- You already know some facts about the United States of America and its people. I’d like you to remember certain things about this country. So, look at the screen. What do you know about the USA? - I want you to learn some new words to talk about the USA. First of all, open your books at p. 227, ex.11. Read the sentences and guess what the underlined words mean.

- What does the word ‘an attraction’ mean? [to attract - an attraction] (a place that many tourists visit)
- What about the word ‘to rise (rose, risen)’? (speaking about a river it means ‘to begin’)
- The word ‘to stretch’ means… (to spread out in space)
- And ‘mighty’? (very strong, powerful)
- The word ‘to melt’ means… (to become liquid; to become gentle, sympathetic)
- Who can guess the meaning of the phrase ‘a melting pot’? (it is a place where people of different races and nations live)
III. ОТРАБОТКА РАНЕЕ ВВЕДЁННОГО ЯЗЫКОВОГО МАТЕРИАЛА И ОВЛАДЕНИЕ РАЗЛИЧНЫМИ ВИДАМИ РЕЧЕВОЙ ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТИ.
1. Упражнение на развитие умения аудирования:
а) ОЗУ.
- Now, children, I’d like you to know some about the USA. And today we start speaking about the geographical outlook. So, please, listen to me attentively and be ready to answer the questions.
б) Прослушивание:
- The United States of America occupy a large territory. The USA is situated in the Central part of the North American continent. It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, and by the Pacific Ocean in the west. It stretches from Canada in the north to Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico in the south.
- In size the USA is the 4th among the nations after Russia, Canada and China. The USA is divided into 3 areas: 1) Eastern area – a highland, where a big mountain chain, the Appalachians, is situated; 2) Central area – a plain; 3) Western area – which is mountainous and includes another big mountain chain, the Rocky Mountains (or the Rockies).
- The north-eastern part of the country is the region of the 5 great lakes: Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario. The Niagara Falls, one of the main American attractions, join Lakes Erie and Ontario.
- Many rivers cross the United States. But the greatest is the mighty Mississippi. Among other big rivers are the Colorado River which rises in the Rocky Mountains, and the Missouri. СЛАЙД № 12 (Weather across America)
- The USA has almost every kind of weather. Also has many kinds of land – rocky coats, dry empty deserts, sunny beaches and lands of endless winter. СЛАЙД № 13 (There are 50 states in the USA)
- There are 50 states there. Two of them, Alaska and Hawaii, are not connected to the other states. СЛАЙД № 14 (a skyscraper)
- Americans are not afraid of new ideas. They built the first skyscrapers. The people of the USA are a mixture of many different nationalities. This country is a melting pot for people, because the USA is a place where people of different races and nations live.
