We’ll make our trip on the traditional red double-decker bus.
( Учащиеся в традиционном английском автобусе отправляются на виртуальную экскурсию по Лондону на красном традиционном автобусе.)
And now let's start excursion.
Guide: (Teacher) Good afternoon, dear children. Welcome to the British capital! Welcome to our round London sightseeing tour. I'm glad to show you the most famous sights of London.
But just a few words about London. It lies on the river Thames. The population of the city is about 8 million people. London is one of the oldest and most interesting cities in Europe. Traditionally it's divided into several parts: the City, Westminster, the West End and the East End
The Heart of London is the City, It's financial and business centre. Numerous banks, offices and firms are situated there.
Westminster is the historic, the governmental part of London.
The West End is the richest and more beautiful part of London. It's the symbol of wealth and luxury.
The East End was once the poorest district of London - with lots of factories and docks, narrow streets and unimpressive buildings. Today the district is changing very fast. There are huge offices and new blocks of flats in the East End.
And now we begin our sightseeing tour near the Tower of London
(Ученики рассказывают про достопримечательности Лондона, кот появляются на экране интерактивной доске)
(Pupil 1) The Tower of London is a very old building, - nine hundred years old! In the early days of England the English kings lived in the Tower. It was a fortress, then it was a prison where many people died. Now the Tower of London is a museum, and many tourists from other countries come to see it. They see the dark stone halls with small windows and thick doors.
(Pupil 2) Trafalgar Square has become famous as a rallying point for all kinds of demonstrations, marches and political meetings. In the middle of the square there is a very famous statue "Nelson's Column" which is over 170 feet high. The Statue on the top is in the memory of Lord Horatio Nelson who won the most famous sea battle at Trafalgar.
(Pupil 3) The most comprehensive collection of antiquities is to be bound at the British Museum in Great Russell Street. The Museum was founded in 1753. It has many departments covering a vast range of subjects. One of its most interesting sections is the National Library. It has more than 6 million books
(Pupil 4) The National Gallery is the home of the most important collection of historical paintings in the UK, which covers all the major European schools since the 13th century.
(Pupil 5) The Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament is famous for its big hour bell, known as "Big Ben". Big Ben is the name of the bell only -not the clock, and not the tower. The bell is 7 foot 6 inches high, and 9 foot 6 inches across the mouth. It weight 13.5 tons.
(Pupil 6) Britain is administrated from the Palace of Westminster in London. This is also known as the Houses of Parliament. Parliament is made up of two chambers - the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The members of the House of Lords are not elected: they qualify to sit in the House because they are bishops of the Church of England; aristocrats inherited their seats from their fathers, people with titles. The House of Commons, has 651 seats which are occupied by Members of Parliament who are elected by the British public.
(Pupil 7) Westminster Abbey has more historic associations than any other building in Britain. Nearly all English kings and queens have been crowned here. Many outstanding statesmen, scientists, writers, poets and painters are buried here: Newton, Darwin, Chaucer, Dickens, and Kipling. There is the Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey where there are a lot of monuments to the memory of the great people such as William Shakespeare and Robert Burns.
(Pupil 8) Buckingham Palace is the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen and her family. It isn't open to the public. The first monarch who took residence there was Queen Victoria. It has 600 rooms, a swimming pool, a cinema, a ballroom, and a garden.
(Pupil 9) 10 Downing Street is a house of the Prime Minister. It is closet to people. The Prime Minister must answer questions every Tuesday and Thursday in the Commons - this is called Prime Minister's Question Time.
