Teacher:What do you like most of all? What place would you like to visit? And why?
As for me, I would like to visit Madame Tussaud’s Museum. I want to take a lot of pictures with figures of famous people. Have you heard about this museum before? We are going to read about it.
Now you will be divided into groups, each group will get a text and a list of questions, one question for each member. Your task is to read and find the answer to your question.
Questions:
1. How did Madame Tussaud start her business?
2. What can you see there?
3. How do specialists work?
4. How can you get to the museum?
Text:
Madame Tussaud inherited the business from her uncle, a man called Philip Curtis who made wax anatomical models and then turned to making entire human figures. The oldest figure in the museum is a mechanical model of a princess which breathes in and out. Philip Curtis made it in 1765. Madame Tussauds has 180 wax models representing celebrities from the past and present, historical and political figures and characters from horror. Each figure is disconcertingly realistic. When a new one is made, experts research the real person as thoroughly as they can, where possible measuring, weighing, photographing and taking plaster casts to ensure that the wax figure matches in every detail - from height to skin texture to ear shape. You can get as close to the wax figures as you like - touch them, hug them and look up their skirts. But there's more to do than look at the figures. Madame Tussauds staff will take professional photos of you with your favourite celebrity. There's also a ride called 'The Spirit of London' which takes you on a journey through London's history. Madame Tussauds hasn't lost its appeal since those days - over 2 and a half million people visit each year. It's on Marylebone Road in central London. It is a 2 minute walk from Baker Street tube station and is signposted from there. To find out more on opening times and ticket prices, and to book a ticket go to www.madame-tussauds.co.uk or phone 0870 999 0046. Although it's possible to buy a ticket on the day of your visit, queues can be long, so it's a good idea to book ahead. There are substantial discounts for booking online.
4.
Teacher: now people who have to answer the first question make a group, people who have to answer the second question make another one, so the others. Discuss your questions within your group, exchange your ideas and then come back your previous group.
(ребята расходятся по группам и начинают обсуждение, затем возвращаются в прежние рабочие группы и представляют свой ответ)
Для контроля выполнения данного задания учитель может опросить учащихся экспертов из каждого группы по одному, а может дать письменный тест
5. этап рефлексии
Teacher:Well, // it’s the end of our lesson. What was new for you? Was our lesson interesting for you? Your hometask is to go towww.madame-tussauds.co.ukand find as much useful information as you can.
