Girls:
JESSIE I hate being this age. I do, I really hate it. I’m 15. You can do anything, you can’t go anywhere. Everyone treats you like a kid. I can’t wait to be older. I don’t talk to my parents about anything important. I mean, I tell my mum quite a lot because then she’ll trust me. But there some things- they really understand. We just talk to our friends when we want advice. And there’s definitely loads of girls who go on diets when they don’t need to. I know some people who get really upset and obsessive about their weight.
AMY I quite like being 15.You don’t have any real responsibilities. I think things are quite easy for us. And it’s easy to talk to my parents- they’re quite cool actually. In fact some of my friends talk to them as well because they can’t talk to their own parents. The future?I don’t know. You have to live your own life first.
HELEN I want to be a model and I’ve got some photos I’m going to send out after the exams. Marriage? Well’ I’d like to meet f nice guy and may be get married, but I definitely don’t want children. My sister’s got three kids and she’s only 23. I don’t want that to happen to me.
JACKIE There’s nothing to do in this town when you’re our age. There’s one club and they have 15-18 nights, but that’s it. And they’re terrible. We spend a lot of time chatting to our friends on the Internet, it’s really addictive. There’s this disco they organize for all the schools. But all the teachers go. It’srubbish.

a)…And one of the most important factors is that the children of today differ from previous generation, and differ a lot. They grow up quicker – physically and mentally. They sometimes lack knowledge, but they know what they want in this life. There are personalities even at the age of 14-15. Unfortunately, some grown-ups don’t understand this, and try to show teens “the right way of life”. It’s stupid, for children don’t want to listen to them; very often grown-ups lose contact with teens.
b)…Yes, I completely agree that they grow up more quickly and are not so dependent on parents. They think more for themselves and do not blindly accept the ideas of their elders. The old always assume that they know best for the simple reason that they have been around a bit longer. They don’t like to feel that their values are being questioned or threatened. And this is precisely what the young are doing. They doubt that the older generation has created the best of all possible worlds.
c)…What the young reject more than anything is conformity. Office hours, for instance, are nothing more than enforced slavery. Wouldn’t people work best if they were given complete freedom and responsibility?
Traditionally, the young have turned to the older for guidance. Today, the situation might be reversed. The old – if they are prepared to admit it – could learn a thing or two from their children. One of the biggest lessons they could learn is that enjoyment is not sinful. Enjoyment is a principle one could apply to all aspects of life. It is surely not wrong to enjoy your work and your leisure.
Б) Составить и воспроизвести диалог по прочитанному (5 реплик). Работа в парах.

Parents!Try to understand your children. Be friendly when our friends come to visit us. Remember that we need our private places. Don’t tidy up our rooms – we can’t find anything after that. Allow children to keep animals at home. Let children choose their clothes and haircuts by themselves. And explain to me why I can’t eat in front of the TV? I think this rule is silly.
