Riddles of the English Grammar
Teacher: Hello, boys and girls! Let’s put our books and other school thing away and let’s play! We are going to speak English, to practice English and see what you know. We’ll deal with different tasks and you should be very attentive. If you answer in the correct way you’ll have a point. So good luck!
Task 1. I’ll read some phrases, some definitions of words and you are to name these words, giving the short variant which is usually used in everyday English.
·Something which is worn by a baby. (bib)
·12 o’clock in the afternoon (noon)
·Something you drink (pep)
·Another word for mother (mom)
·A tiny child (tot)
·The Past tense of “do” (did)
·Another name for Robert (Bob)
·A call for help (SOS)
·An exclamation (wow)
·A short word for “sister” (sis)
·Another word for “father” (Dad)
Task 2.
Teacher: I suppose you are fond of riddles. Try to guess what it is.
·What has no head, no arms, no legs and still has a tongue? (a shoe)
·What dog has no tail? (a hot-dog)
·Why do birds fly south? (because it’s too far to walk)
·What do cats have that no other animals have? (a kitten)
·This thing has got cities but no houses, forests, but no trees, rivers without water. What’s this? (a map)
·How many lions can enter an empty cage? (only one, after the first one it’s not empty)
·Why can’t the world ever come to an end? (because it’s round)
Task 3.
Teacher: Now we are going to play in a circle with a ball. “A” thinks of a word and says it aloud. “B” has to say a word that begins with the last letter of the “A’s” word and so on in a circle until someone makes a mistake or can’t find a word. For example: cat – table – egg…
Task 4.
You next task is to unscramble the letters to make the name of the animal.

Task 6.
And now you have to use the words given on the cards and make a story: long or short story, funny or horrible.
